Duality (work in progess)

As digging into the archives capturing Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong detention centres from 1989 to 1990, taken by Wakelin for the Save the Children organisation (V&A), I’m thinking of a way to connect with the past through its tangible remnants.

My objective is to recover and reconstruct the archive, shedding light on how it shapes our relationship with historical events and the overall construction of historical significance.

To create a series, I employ photographic reproduction and utilise the embossing technique on aluminium surfaces to address identity issues. Through this artistic process, I intentionally discoloured and erased specific details from the images, leaving viewers with subtle traces of historical narratives.
